In this talk, I will present how we used the SDN technology to design and implement an application-aware network routing scheme and compare its performance with those of other routing schemes. The performances of these routing schemes are evaluated with the traﬃc generated by a Hadoop big data processing. We used the Es Net OpenFlow network emulator to construct a 20-switch emulated OpenFlow network, and used it to connect together 16 physical servers par cipa ng in the Hadoop big data processing. Comparison results and insights will be presented in this talk to evaluate the poten al benefits of application-aware SDN rou ng for big data processing.
Dr. Shie-Yuan Wang (王協源) is a Professor of the Department of Computer Science at National Chiao Tung University, Taiwan. He is currently serving as the Director of Ins tute of Network Engineering, National Chiao Tung University. He received his master and Ph.D. degrees in computer science from Harvard University in 1997 and 1999, respectively. His research interests include computer networks, operating systems, network simulation, so ware-defined networks, and cloud computing. He received the “Outstanding Information Technology Elite Award” of Taiwan R.O.C. government in 2012, which was bestowed by the Vice President of Taiwan R.O.C. government. He authors the NCTUns/Es Net network simulator and emulator, which now is a famous tool widely used by researchers in the world. In year 2012, the Es Net tool won the “Outstanding Information Technology Application and Product Award” of Taiwan R.O.C. government. This award was bestowed by the Minister of Economic Aﬀairs of Taiwan R.O.C. government.
